Christi guessed it!
Yes!
We are planning on heading off to Washington DC in March during our kids Spring Break. Hubby cashed in all his Marriot Points and we're staying for free for 6 days in a beautiful hotel just outside of DC in Falls Church. The hotel has an indoor pool (parental sanity saver #1) and a 5 minute shuttle to the Metro line (parental sanity saver #2) and it all adds up to SWEET!
We are driving to DC (saving those frequent flyer miles for our 20th anniversary trip sans kids to Italy!)
Checklist
1) I've been to Borders to buy the "Unofficial Guide to DC" If you all aren't familiar with this series of tour guides, you MUST check them out! The one we used for Disney turned a one day trip into a trip of a lifetime...pinky promise.
2) Hubby has also been in touch with our local congressman's office. He and the congressman serve on a board of trustee's together, so we should be able to get all the passes we need to the sites we want to see!
3) I've mapped out our prelim itinerary, (completely subject to change based on what our congressman can get for us in terms of tours)
4) Christi...can you post that link here for the National Treasure tour? I've already got the photo safari link saved!
All four of us are such history GEEKS that this is a dream come true! Hubby and I have been to DC before as 12 year olds, but being able to share this with our kids, who at a younger age, can spit back facts with more insight than we could at twelve is icing on the cake.
I'll be posting more in the months ahead, but for now..... Geek alert, Geek alert...we are DC bound the first full week in March!

Lisa, you guys are going to have so much fun!
If you go to the National Parks website you can get tickets to go to the top of the Washington Monument. http://www.nps.gov/applications/parksearch/state.cfm?st=dc
You can also get the boys a National Parks passport and they can get it stamped in all the parks in DC (which is almost EVERYTHING in DC!)
We really liked the monuments at night tour. Easy on and off. If you can get a ride with "Mr. Map" as your driver on Old Town Trolley, you're in for a real treat! He's funny and full of information! You can get tickets for both at Union Station.
Don't forget The Spy Museum. There is an admission fee but your boys will probably love it. Brendan did. That's where they went while I was on my Photo Safari.
OK...took tons of googling but here's the link for the National Treasure tour

Sounds like you'll have everything figured out! Woot! That's going to be awesome!
