Ole Man Winter

For your viewing pleasure, I present LIVE and in HIGH DEFINITION, the semi annual "Deep South Freakout over the Impending Ice Storm of Doom"

Pull up a chair folks, get comfy and watch as:

1) Every grocery store within a 100 mile radius of Atlanta is picked clean of every gallon of milk, loaf of bread and carton of eggs

2) 10 car deep lines form at the gas station for fuel to fire up the generators. Lifelong friendships are forged during the hour wait.

3) Radio and television coverage is interrupted every 15 minutes with a mile by mile status of the advancing storm. Local weatherman blow the raspberry at the pretty talking head behind the desk whilst they enjoy their 15 minutes of fame.

4) Firewood flies out of convenience storms faster than Big Gulps at lunch time.

5) Fistfights break out in home improvement stores over the last set of double A batteries

Children are celebrating, parents are panicking, chaos in the streets!!!

Stay tuned.................................

Musings on 46

So I had another birthday on Saturday.

It was a wonderful week-end long celebration starting with dinner and Shakespeare on Friday with two couples who are our dearest and oldest friends.

Saturday morning I treated myself to a haircut, manicure and a kickin new pair of black boots. Then there was a trip to the wine bar with all our neighborhood friends Saturday night.

On Sunday night I was flopped out on the sofa reading and at some point I looked up at a picture of my mother on the eve of her college graduation.

God she was beautiful, I thought to myself. Still is, elegant, smart, sassy and beautiful.

Then I thought back to when I was six I couldn't possibly imagine how it must feel to be OLD, like you know over 22, which was her age in the picture.

And then I had a good laugh wondering what my six year old self would think of my 46 year old self.

I would hope she would look at me and say...wow....she's elegant and smart and sassy and still beautiful.

I'm pretty sure she would, because my mother gave us both that gift, the gift of believing that you are beautiful at any age.

Thanks mom

Civility

Dear faithful readers(all two of you)....for your reading pleasure....a snippet regarding the latest American Idol season

The judges' harsh assessments also were defended by Geffen Records chairman Ron Fair, who is about to take on a Cowell-like role on an upcoming talent show for the CW network, "Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll."

"In order to have a reputation and continue in a healthy manner in this business, you have to tell people `no' all day long," he said. "I'm telling people 'I'm not going to sign you, that song is not a hit' ... And there's no gracious or wonderful way to tell somebody, whose hopes and dreams are on the line: `no.'"

BULL

Would you like me to demonstrate?

No I'm sorry ...but you are not what we had in mind.

No I'm sorry...we are looking for a specific type

No I'm sorry...you would be better suited for (A, B C or D)

No I'm sorry....have you considered (A, B, C or D)

No I'm sorry...best of luck to you

HONESTLY. Get some decency cojones people. It is not that hard to say NO and be polite at the same time.

Perchance said decency deficient individuals should get their collective derrieres to the South for a 6 week Parris Island type training in the ART of saying "no" with grace. And I say this with all modesty aside,we are the penultimate experts in the polite "notachanceinhell" rebuttal arena.

You may be rebuffed. You may be bewildered. But you will leave with your dignity

JOY!

That's going to be my word for the year, my mantra, my prayer, my defense, my rallying cry.

JOY

Today....joy came down in big huge cascading sheets

Today, BamBam, who has never earned any academic recognition EVER in his school career, today he was named to the Principal's List for the semester.

Principal' list is better than Honors and slightly less than Headmaster's List. What is means for BamBam is that he made mostly A's with a few B's.

I thought I knew what joy was before, what it meant to say that another human being was "beaming". But all that fell away when I saw the look on his face. Sheer and utter joy and a light that could power the world.

For a child who was struggling with C's and D's last year, pre ADD diagnosis, this was beyond words, it was positively life changing.

Because now.... I can see that he KNOWS deep in his heart, deep in his gut that he can do ANYTHING.

and that my friends is JOY defined.

So I do solemnly swear to

blog more than once a week.

HA!

How's that for a resolution?

Oh how the mighty have fallen. Back in my paleoprehistoricprereproductive days...I wrote in a diary.

EVERY day.... for TEN years...pages and pages in longhand, with a Waterman fountain pen in journals made of premium bond paper.

And in the long run what I have are reams and reams of mindless, self-important, self-absorbed drivel. GAH!

But hey....it IS an accurate snapshot...although one I may or may not share with posterity.

Seeing that I've slightly evolved since THAT epoch and don't go on ad nauseaum about my latest weight loss/gain (see again BEFORE child bearing epoch where I would gladly sacrifice my Olympic caliber nasally challenged husband on the scales of my pre child bearing FAT weight)

Or my sanctimonious, "I'm so damn smart pre 40 years on the planet" expert opinions (god I shudder to think how I'm going to look at this at 80)

I merely offer up to you in blogspeak....my random, slightly whacked skew on everyday life.

It sure as hell won't be pontification and may at times actually be mildly entertaining...or at least mildly diversionary or just plain downright scary.

and if something's spelled wrong...tough tooties....spell check isin't working anymore...but what do you expect for FREE!

Heh

Days late and

.................dollars short

You would think I would have something grand to set forth as my OBJECTIVE for the NEW YEAR.

Nope.

I'm very conflicted about the whole resolution process because resolutions equates evolution in my world ...and my time frame NEVER jibes with a day on the calendar as prescribed by the powers "that be"

So....to quote John Mellencamp ( who I ADORE)

It's just another day

So what have I chosen and what shall life bring me?

Stay tuned.
