Lifting up

I toyed ever so briefly with the blog title for this post being "Letting Go"

And while that would have summed it up all nice and neat with a pretty bow on top, it also would have been very cliche and not completely to the point.

This morning....this very rainy and cold morning, after two weeks of prep, my BamBam embarked on his very first Boy Scout adventure.

An overnight backpack, into a National Park, with his troop.

Carrying everything he needed on his tall, thin frame.

He woke me up with a kiss and a hug this morning.
Sleeping very little the night before, he told me, because he was so excited.

And I had a brief flashback to when he was a very little boy, waking me in the wee hours, because he was SURE..Santa had COME!

Then he held out his hand for me, as I tried groggily to find my slippers and walked with his arm around my waist, down the stairs and to the kitchen.

While his dad cooked up a huge breakfast of french toast and bacon, he began assembling his trail lunch,

BOTH large enough I hoped, to keep that tall, thin frame full and warm all day.

Silly.

I can't be be there for him in the cold, pouring rain.

But I think maybe... his father and I? Have given him what he needs.

That tall thin frame? Can and will handle much in the years to come.

Letting go?

Working on it.

Lifting up?

Definitely.

Our hands will always be at the small of your back, sweet boy.
Even if you can't see or feel it.

And I love you mostest, toastest, times infinity

PLUS one

Love,

Momma

Lisa, the first overnighters are difficult. For the moms, I think.
And you know, I have a 'tall, thin' son who is a scout. And guess what? He is very strong and very resilient. And a great scouter.
Yours is too, I just know it.
