So this is how it goes on just about any given night in my household when I actually have a chance to make a REAL dinner and not just throw together a quick meal of quesedillas, cottage cheese and fruit or sandwiches
WHAT is that you say? That sounds like dinner to me....damn it!!
Why yes they are my dear bloggers and I embrace them in the season of the sport. And I hug them and pet them and whisper sweet nothings to entice them to give up their heady and nutritious variations.
But I must confess that after two months of eating said fare, homemade soup, bread and a salad sound like a FEAST! So back to my story....so where was I? Oh yes...soup!
DH: "YUMMMMM....Honey this is good! What is it?"
MOI: "Uhmmmmm......some kind of chowder"
DH: "What do you mean some kind? What's in the recipe?"
Now I should pause the action at this point only to point out that we've been married 20 years and he should know the answer to this one by now, but alas.
This species of the male variety? He does not not adapt well.
As a matter of fact it is my firm belief that the only reason we as a species have adapted, survived and thrived is due to the female of the species ability to....AHEM....shall we say "get rapidly up to speed"
BACK TO THE ACTION
MOI: "I don't know sweetie. It started out as potato corn chowder. But I had some chicken breast I needed to use up. And then there was this half of a red bell pepper in the crisper that probably only had a day or two left, so in it went. Then, I thought the color was a little monochromatic and needed some green. So I chopped up some parsley, even though I wanted cilantro. But my cilantro had turned into slime and I had to pitch it. But I DID have green onion and so I tossed that in too! The pot seemed to be making a detour to Mexicali, so I threw in some cumin and the juice of half a lime for kicks. And then I thought, what would happen if I added the rind of the half of the lime into the pot as well? So I did and let it simmer for awhile and then scooped it out and it looked like it needed a little somethin, somethin....so I crushed some tortilla chips on top and hit it with a dollop of sour cream and a shred of jack cheese. So I guess it's Mexicali chowder!"
DH....looking sideways from his steaming bowl
"So is there any chance we might get this one in writing??"
Heh
You saw it here first!
