Double Digits

Happy Birthday BamBam.....10 years ago today you burst into our world with bright curious eyes, a killer smile and a contented soul.

When I went to your room today to wake you up with a soft chorus of "Happy Birthday"...you wrapped your arms around me and I put my chin on your head. (I'm 5'10".....yes he IS THAT tall!)

Hugging me close you whispered

"Mommy. I don't want to be 10."

"Why honey? It's a big deal...double digits!!!!"

"Because. In three years I'll be a teenager"

"And what's wrong with that?"

"Because. Teenagers are snots."

Oh my. Did I mention he's also extremely wise for his years?

Happy Birthday BamBam...I know in my heart you will NOT be a teenage snot.

And even if you are a snot sometimes, you'll forever and always be my little snot. And I'll love you more than I did on the day you burst into my life and a little more each day after.

Because you gave and continue to give me this exquisite gift. That I should walk around for the rest of my life with my heart on the outside of my body.

Vulnerable, raw.... and really feeling in the core of my being, what it is to love unconditionally.

I love you baby boy.

Make a wish....you've already made mine come true.

I know this was supposed to be a beautiful tribute to your wonderful son (Happy Birthday Bam Bam!) but instead you painted a picture in my mind of said son "bursting" out of you. Umm...eww.

Ha!
